Jeevan Shala, Life Education Project : SWATI has initiated a new experiment in adolescent education where non-literate girls are taught daily to read, write and calculate so that they can develop the skills necessary to lead a meaningful and wholesome life. The program initially began with a teacher going to the village and teaching classes there for a period of NUMBER of months. However, due to daily inconsistencies in the attendance of girls, the program has been altered and now takes the form of a 4-month camp, held in Dhrangadhra. Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Education Program: In order to meet the needs of the school-going adolescents, SWATI has systematically extended its reproductive health education program to high schools in villages in its project area. An educative module has been developed to address adolescent concerns and needs. The topics include gender understanding, reproductive and sexual health concerns of adolescents, and nutrition and hygiene. Kishoree Mela (Adolescent Girl Health Fair) |

A ‘Kishoree Mela’ was organized in the Lakhtar taluka of
Surendranagar district to create awareness on reproductive health, nutrition
and hygiene for adolescent girls. Exhibition stalls covering various topics
arranged to provide a structured forum to learn about body physiology,
reproductive and sexual health, Gender understanding, and nutrition and
hygiene. Multiple resources like posters, cutouts and visual presentations
were used so that the girls would easily understand the content. Counseling
sessions and education workshops on understanding body physiology and
menstruation were also organized |
